Course Overview

This qualification reflects the role of workers in a range of community settings and clients’ homes, who provide training and support in a manner that empowers people with disabilities to achieve greater levels of independence, self-reliance, community participation and wellbeing. Workers promote a person-centred approach, work without direct supervision and may be required to supervise and/or coordinate a small team.

 

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 120 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.

Total number of units = 14

  • 11 core units
  • 3 elective units
  • at least 2 must be selected from the electives listed below
  • 1 unit may be selected from any endorsed Training Packages or accredited courses – these units must be relevant to the work outcome.
All electives chosen must contribute to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome.​

ENTRY FOR THIS COURSE

Whilst there are no entry requirements stipulated in the training package (CHC), ICV requires its participants to meet the following criteria:

  • Australian Year 11 or equivalent OR
  • Mature age (at least 20 years of age)
  • Meet the Language Literacy and Numeracy requirements; ICV conducts LLN entry test and a pre-training review at the time of enrolment

 

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL)

 

Prospective students can apply for recognition of their existing skills and knowledge that is relevant to the units of competence within the program. These skills and knowledge may have been obtained through workplace training or experience and may reduce the number of units required to be completed during the qualification. Students are recommended to notify ICV of their interest or intention to apply for RPL prior to their enrollment.

Also, students MUST obtain a Police Check before commencing the workplacement.

Pathways from the qualification

Students who successfully complete this qualification may pathway into further study options:

  • CHC52015 – Diploma of Community Services OR
  • HLT54115 Diploma of Nursing

The following employment pathways are available to the students who complete Certificate IV in Disability successfully:

  • Senior Personal Care Assistant
  • Lifestyle Support Officer
  • Disability Team Leader
  • Local Area Coordinator
  • Disability Support Facilitator

Exit Points

  • At any point prior to the completion of the program, a participant may request a Statement of Attainment for an individual unit or units where he/she has been assessed competent

At the successful completion of the program – a qualification of CHC43115 Certificate IV in Disability will be issued.
